Core terms

Authority having jurisdiction (AHJ)
The public authority responsible for administering applicable rules.
Factory-built
A broad description for construction completed partly or substantially in a plant.
Manufactured home
In the United States, a dwelling built under the federal HUD construction and safety standards; it is not the same regulatory category as a modular home.
Marriage line
The interface where modules are joined.
Module
A three-dimensional volumetric section designed for transport and assembly into a building.
Modular home
A permanent home assembled from factory-produced modules under the code and approval system accepted at its destination.
Set
The operation of placing and connecting modules on the foundation.
Site-built work
Foundations, utilities, connections, additions and finishes completed at the property.
